World Bank offers $500m loan to bolster Egypt’s Takaful, Karama

Cairo – Mubasher: The World Bank has offered a $500 million financing to bolster “Takaful and Karama” (Solidarity and Dignity) programme.

The recent offer is based on the positive results of the cash subsidy programme, Egyptian social solidarity minister Ghada Wali told local newspaper Almal.

The Washington-based lender has hired a major research entity to evaluate the programme launched three years ago, the minister indicated.

Takaful and Karama is an integrated programme established by the social solidarity ministry in a bid to boost families lifestyle and help them ditch poverty.

The programme currently covers around two million and 250,000 families.
