Work progressing on three projects for Abu Dhabi's Imkan

Abu Dhabi-based developer Imkan is making progress on three projects currently under construction across its local and international portfolio, announcing a number of contract awards.

Works have begun on the Makers District, Nudra, and Sheikha Fatima Park projects in Abu Dhabi, and Alburouj in Cairo, Egypt.

Walid El-Hindi, chief executive officer of Imkan, said: “We are truly proud of the headway we are making across our projects at home and abroad. We are not simply building homes and offices, we are shaping a whole new mindset in real estate.

“Our projects bring a unique design sensibility, quality and way of life to the cities they are part of. We are confident that once complete, our destinations will generate unparalleled interest as they meet the residential and workplace needs of a vibrant, creative, and socially conscious community.”

Local engineering and contracting firm National Marine Dredging Company has nearly completed the reclamation of six hectares of land for public use at Makers District, the 18-hectare master-planned development on Reem Island.

As per schedule, the enabling works for Pixel, the creative residential component of the district, will commence in the second quarter of 2018.

Work on the project will include 700 lineal metres of shoring, 180,000 cubic metres of excavation, and more than 900 permanent piles.

Imkan also started excavation on its Nudra development, which is taking shape in the Cultural District on Saadiyat Island.

Set to comprise 37 shell-and-core high-end beachside villas, the project offers residents the opportunity to design their own home. The developer has awarded a construction contract for Nudra to a joint-venture of UK-based Wates and Eastern.

The contract for the construction of Abu Dhabi’s first open-air leisure and entertainment green, Sheikha Fatima Park, has been awarded to local contractor Al Fara’a that has already commenced preliminary works.

Spanning 46,000m2 – roughly the size of Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi – the park will be the first project in the capital to merge F&B and retail with green open spaces.

Construction is also well underway on Alburouj – a fully integrated community, situated in the developing residential area of East Cairo and set to include more than 1,200 mixed-type units spanning over 1,200 acres (5 million sq m).

The project includes the Sheikh Zayed Mosque that pays homage to the founding father of the UAE, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The first residential communities of Alburouj are slated for handover in Q2 2019.

Imkan will showcase state-of-the-art models of its developments in the UAE, Egypt and Morocco at stands 9B10 and 9B20 at Cityscape Abu Dhabi, running from April 17 to 19 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
