Vodafone Qatar launches 5G network

Mubasher: Vodafone Qatar on Tuesday announced that it has launched its 5G network to be the first telecom operator in the GCC country to deploy the latest data technology evolution on its network.

The new service involves speed internet, but more significantly ultra-low latency – providing a shorter time for streaming data between two points, according to the telecommunication company’s statement to the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE).

Vodafone Qatar’s CEO Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim Al Thani has noted that 5G will accelerate Qatar’s efforts to become one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world.

Moreover, the company’s COO Diego Camberos highlighted a number of potential applications of 5G technology, explaining how these will improve the lives of the country’s residents and support Qatar’s progress.

Vodafone Qatar has successfully tested the 5G network by the end of July before the official launching.

It is worth noting that the company turned to a profit during the first half of 2018, recording QAR 49 million, against a loss of QAR 131 million in H1-17.

By 11:25 am Qatar time, Vodafone Qatar’s stock grew 0.22% at QAR 9.08.
