UAE to approve long-term visa applications as of 3 February

Dubai – Mubasher: The UAE will officially start accepting applications for 10-year residency visas for expatriates, investors and businesspeople from 3 February.

“The implementation date [was] specified to be 3 February for the programme, and that is when applicants from across the UAE will be able to apply for the visas,” Murtaza Khan, a partner at international immigration firm Fraggommen, said.

Accordingly, two committees were formed as part of the resolution that will evaluate candidates for the visas, one for investors and the other for entrepreneurs, scientists and specialised talent, Arabian Business reported.

“It is important to note that the criteria outlined are only the minimums that candidates need to meet,” Khan added.

In November 2018, the UAE Cabinet approved a new comprehensive long-term visa system for investors, entrepreneurs, specialised talents and researchers and outstanding students.

The decision aims to facilitate business and create an attractive and encouraging investment environment for the growth of business for investors, entrepreneurs and professional talents.

Last week, the government announced granting the first batch of long-term visas to 20 scientists and researchers.

The 10-year visas include professors working at Khalifa University and UAE University as well as other academics and researchers, who were the winners and finalists of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence
