UAE signs agreement with NASA to train Emirati astronauts

UAE - Mubasher: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has inked a strategic agreement with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to train four Emirati astronauts in NASA.

Under the partnership, the Emirati astronauts, including Hazzaa Al Mansoori and Sultan Al Neyadi, will be prepared physically and psychologically for advanced space missions.

Meanwhile, two more astronauts will be selected from the second batch of the UAE Astronaut Programme to participate in the 2021 NASA Astronaut Candidate Class.

The Emirati astronauts will receive the training programme at NASA's Johnson Space Center, one of the world's largest centres for spaceflight training, research, and mission control.

The Chairman of the MBRSC, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, said: "The strategic partnership with NASA, a space pioneer for more than 60 years, supports the strategy of the UAE’s National Space Programme."

Al Mansoori added: "This agreement is a clear testament of the strong economic, cultural and diplomatic ties between the UAE and the USA. The UAE space sector today has advanced expertise that must be enhanced and utilised for future space missions."
