UAE, Israel Space Agencies ink agreement to enhance space cooperation

UAE - Mubasher: The UAE Space Agency has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Israel Space Agency to cooperate in scientific research, space exploration, and data analysis and exchange expertise.

Under the agreement, the UAE will develop scientific instruments for Israel’s Beresheet-2 mission to land a spacecraft on the Moon by 2024, according to a press release on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, universities in Israel and the UAE will also set up collaborative research projects, including the red tide phenomenon.

The MoU will enable the UAE to have access to vegetation and environmental data collected by a microsatellite used by the Israel Space Agency and the French Space Agency.

Commenting on the agreement, the Minister of State for Advanced Technologies and Chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency, Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, said: "Sharing knowledge and expertise is a key part of the UAE’s vision to create an attractive and competitive national space industry."

Meanwhile, Israel’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Orit Farkash-Hacohen, commented: "I thank the Minister of Advanced Technologies Sarah Al Amiri for the significant, collaborative work done in the last year between the two agencies. Thanks to this work we are already launching advanced initiatives for the benefit of our children's education and joint research."
