Tunisia: Algeria to export electricity to Libya via Tunisia

“Algeria will export electricity to Libya via Tunisia in the future”, Algerian Energy Minister Mustapha Guitouni said Tuesday in Khenchala.

“The export of electricity is part of the program of the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika on exporting the surplus of this energy after achieving self-sufficiency in this area, the minister told APS in margin of his working visit to the wilaya.
Consultations “are currently underway with Tunisia, which will benefit from 400 megawatts and with Libya,” the minister added.
The export of electricity to these two countries will be made from the two Wilayas of Batna and Khenchela.
In the latter, a new plant of 421.5 megawatts was inaugurated Tuesday in addition to continuing work to build another plant in R’mila with a capacity of 1,266.7 megawatts completed at 60.9% and expandable to 1,600 megawatts.
