The Red Sea Development Co, Saudi Arabia's Kaust ink MoU

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) and The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to form a partnership that will deliver coastal development projects within the Public Investment Fund-backed gigaproject The Red Sea Project in environmentally sustainable ways.

Saudi Arabia's state news agency, SPA, reported that the MoU is a preliminary step towards further joint research into the sustainability of marine environments, waste management systems, energy conservation, and carbon sequestration.

Kaust president, Tony Chan, said the collaboration would exemplify how scientific research can serve sustainable coastal development projects in Saudi Arabia and help promote economic diversification in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.

Chief executive officer of TRSDC, John Pagano, said the MoU would ensure the protection of the ecosystem within which The Red Sea Project is being delivered, and provide high-quality tourism experiences without disturbing the elements of the natural environment in the project.
