Telecom Egypt inks four agreements with Libyan firms

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, announced the signing of four agreements between Telecom Egypt, Hatif Libya, and LITC in training and leveraging technical and administrative expertise in various fields.

In addition, a framework agreement was signed for interconnection and for making the Egyptian international cable network available to Libya, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Talaat highlighted that the agreements mark the beginning of a serious, in-depth and multi-pillar phase of cooperation between Egypt and Libya in information and communications technology (ICT), and represent a final agreement on the issues raised during his visit to Libya last April.

The Chairman of the Libya Post, Telecommunication, and Information Technology Holding Company (LPTIC), Faisel Gergab, said that the two sides agreed on implementing projects to act as a building block for business, investment, and joint work between the two countries.

The projects include one to transfer the leading Egyptian experience in digital transformation through establishing a Libyan-Egyptian company concerned with developing digital transformation initiatives in the two countries, carrying out a range of major infrastructure projects, putting into effect the digital transformation and government service automation projects in Libya, and establishing smart cities in Tripoli and Benghazi and a national data centre in Libya with the support of Egypt.

The two sides also agreed to expedite the establishment of the ICT Academy premises in Libya through an Egyptian-Libyan partnership and to start organising training, qualification, and capacity-building programs.

It was also agreed on making a joint Egyptian-Libyan investment to indigenise the latest technologies in Egypt and Libya, including the establishment of a fibre-optic cable factory.

Pursuant to the agreements signed by Telecom Egypt, Hatif Libya, and LITC, the former will provide all kinds of technical and advisory support to Hatif Libya through providing consultancy services for planning, designing, creating, operating, and maintaining infrastructure to ensure the achievement of digital transformation in the shortest period of time, through more than one model that includes technical consultation, shadow management, and project management at different stages, as well as providing legal, regulatory, commercial, advertising, financial, accounting, and other consultation.
