Siemens, Iraq Sign Agreement for Electricity Reconstruction

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has signed a reconstruction agreement with Siemens to boost the country’s economic development including adding 11 gigawatts of power generation within the next four years, Pipeline Oil and Gas Magazine reported.

“Our commitment to the Iraqi people stands strong – we promised them to achieve affordable and reliable power supply, help with anti-corruption, build schools and hospitals and create thousands of jobs,” said Joe Kaeser, president and CEO of Siemens AG.

Siemens said it is ready to add 11 gigawatts of power generation to the Iraqi grid over the course of the next four years, which will provide 23 million Iraqis with reliable electricity, and nearly double the current generation capacity.
