Sharjah EDD in varsity tie-up to bolster economy

The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Al Qasimia University, in a bid to strengthen economic development in the Emirate of Sharjah, a media report said.

Also, the MoU calls upon both parties to promote cooperation through conducting economic studies and consultations that contribute to the development of the economy in Sharjah, along with hosting consultations, technical assistance, support and institutional development in the fields of knowledge, and human and economic development, reported Emirates news agency Wam.

Further, it calls for collaboration in organising conferences, workshops and specialised seminars that discuss the latest developments and best practices in areas of common interest.

The MoU was signed by Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD chairman, and Dr. Rashad Salem, vice chancellor of Al Qasimia University.

Sultan Abdullah Al Suwaidi said that the MoU serves the strategic objectives of the Department, which aims to establish strong partnerships with the institutions to work on developing the level of performance and to consolidate the concept of partnership, as well as its crucial role in its institutional work. It should be noted that the MoU helps in supporting the aims to reaching the goals of the two parties in matters related to economic development.

Dr Salem stressed that the MoU with SEDD will help in supporting Sharjah’s economy and the economic development process. He noted that it will assist in promoting mutual work between the two sides to enrich research and studies, in order to serve the economic sector in preparing scientific materials, covering all aspects of the economic system.

Dr Salem stated that research and scientific cooperation is one of the most important aspects in which Al Qasimia University seeks to offer its expertise as a pioneering scientific institution in the Emirate of Sharjah, in addition to expanding cooperation with authorities to promote and develop research and programs.

The two parties are expected to have an effective and positive impact on the research and studies carried out in the field of economic development, and to achieve the ambition of the emirate of Sharjah for a more sustainable future for future generations.
