Saudi Al Jubail Port sees 35% rise in cargo handling in Q1- MAWANI

Riyadh – Mubasher: Al Jubail Commercial Sea Port saw a 35% year-on-year growth in cargo handling in the first quarter of 2018.

Cargo handled reached 3.38 million tonnes during Q1-18, compared to 2.51 million tonnes in Q1-17, MAWANI Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Exports and imports from dry bulk cargoes jumped 69% to 549,140 tonnes in Q1-18, up from 324,780 tonnes in the year-ago period, director general of Jubail Commercial Port Fahad bin Ahmed Al-Amer noted.

Exports and imports from general cargoes skyrocketed 224% to 335,860 tonnes during Q1-18, from 103,520 tonnes in Q1-17, Al-Amer added.

Year-on-year, the number of standard containers increased by 20% to 175,610 in Q1-18, compared to 146,670 in the same quarter a year earlier.

Ships that reached to Al Jubail Commercial Sea Port jumped 12% to 166 during Q1-18, from 148 in Q1-17.
