Russia’s oil tycoon gives retrieval of $500m yacht another try

Dubai – Mubasher: Russian oil tycoon Farkhad Akhmedov has appealed a freezing order on a $500 million yacht seized in Dubai on the back of a legal dispute with his ex-wife Tatiana Akhmedov.

Last week, Dubai Courts upheld an order imposed by the London High Court in April to transfer the ownership of the superyacht Luna to Tatiana.

The divorced wife’s legal team has stated that they would arrange the transferal of Luna’s ownership to Tatiana.

“[This statement] is pure fantasy. For that to happen would take years before the Dubai full legal processes are exhausted,” Akhmedov’s spokesperson said, quoted by Arabian business.

Tatiana Akhmedov, a dual citizen, was divorced from her husband Farkhad Akhmedov, a Russian oil tycoon, in 2014, a divorce that was followed by a legal dispute between both spouses.

After a settlement, Farkhad was obliged to pay his ex-wife $6.3 million annually for life, but he refused this decision, leading a court in the UK to freeze all his assets, including the contested yacht.
