Ras Al Khaimah airport re-opens duty-free area after revamp

Ras Al Khaimah International Airport officially inaugurated its new-look Duty Free shopping area on Sunday, following a renovation programme.

The retail space in the Departures and Arrivals terminals was upgraded in response to an increasing number of passengers in recent years, a statement said.

RAK Duty Free now features brands such as Jimmy Choo, Hugo Boss, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Diesel, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Channel, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Davidoff, Burberry and Bulgari, as well as premium confectionary, beverages and cosmetics brands.

The refurbishment follows the announcement that tourism group TUI and ITAKA will extend the partnership with Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority with six flights operating weekly from four airports in Poland.

RAK airport will also see two weekly flights from Russia and a weekly flight from Luxembourg later this year.

The airport also announced that it has signed a long-term agreement with Saudi carrier Flynas to help Indian pilgrims travel to the kingdom for the 2019 Hajj season.

Booking for next year’s special flights was launched on August 27, the statement added.

RAK has recently been boosting its tourism investment in order to attract more visitors.

In February, it broke the record for the world’s longest zip line with a new attraction on top of Jebel Jais mountain.

Several other adventure tourism have attractions have also been opened over the last 18 months.

The emirate’s tourism authority is aiming to welcome one million visitors a year by the end of 2018 and 2.9 million annually by 2025.
