Queen Alia Airport Hits the 1 Million Passengers Sweet Spot for First Time in History

Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) has welcomed for the first time ever 1,002,010 passengers (PAX) during August, represented by an upturn of 6.8 per cent compared to 2017, a statement from the Airport International Group said.

During August, aircraft movements (ACM) increased by 8.8 per cent and handled cargo decreased by 16.8 per cent. Between January and August 2018, passengers travelling via QAIA amounted to 5,804,735, marking a 7.2 per cent growth in year-to-date (YTD) PAX numbers as opposed to the same period last year.

Figures also registered a 3 per cent rise in ACM and a 2.9 per cent decline in cargo — with 52,365 movements and 68,996 tons respectively, the statement said.

“August has been an extremely successful month, proudly crossing the 1 million passenger mark for the first time in QAIA history. The increased activity we witnessed was led by the Eid Al Adha holiday, Hajj season and end of the summer vacation,” Kjeld Binger, CEO of Airport International Group, said.
