Qatar’s non-oil exports leap 15% in Q1-18

Mubasher: Qatar’s non-oil exports jumped 15.1% year-on-year for the first quarter of 2018.

Qatari non-oil exports amounted to QAR 5.64 billion during Q1-18, compared to QAR 4.90 billion in the same quarter a year earlier, according to Qatar Chamber’s monthly report on Wednesday.

The total value of non-oil exports dropped 13% year-on-year to QAR 1.3 billion in December 2017, the report showed.

Non-oil exports of the private sector slid 22% year-on-year in the third month of 2018 to QAR 1.4 billion, from QAR 1.8 billion during the same month of the previous year.

Month-on-month, Qatar’s exports slid 36.4% in March 2018 from QAR 2.2 billion in February.

Exports of the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter were destined for around 57 countries in March.

These countries included 11 Arab nations along with the GCC states, 10 European countries and Turkey, 16 Asian countries excluding Arab peers, 15 African countries, and three countries in South and North America, according to the report.

Oman remained the key GCC markets for the Qatari exports in March 2018 with a total value of QAR 485.8 million, representing 35.8% of Doha's total export, followed by Netherlands and Turkey with QAR 209.1 million and QAR 87.7 million, respectively.
