Qatar’s IPI grows 1.4 in July – MDPS

Mubasher: Qatar’s industrial production index (IPI) jumped 1.4% year-on-year to 107.7 points in July, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said in a statement released on Wednesday.

The manufacturing index of the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter consists of three main components, namely mining represents 83.6%, while manufacturing, electricity, and water account for 15.2%, 0.7%, and 0.5%, respectively.

The statement attributed the IPI rise to an increase in the mining segment by 2.1%, in addition to the growth in crude oil and natural gas production by 2.2%, the ministry's data showed.

Meanwhile, the production of other subgroups of the manufacturing index witnessed a 1.2% growth topped by the manufacturing of basic metals by 9.1%.

As for electricity and water, these witnessed a 9.9% drop, while water supplies rose 1.4%, the ministry's data found.

On monthly basis, Qatar’s IPI went up 2.2%, compared to 105.4 points in June.
