Mubasher: Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment has launched a technical tender for setting up ten agriculture projects for producing vegetables in greenhouses.
Spanning 100,000 metres each, the projects are aimed at making a leap in Qatar’s fresh vegetables production, the ministry added.
The production of each project is expected to reach 2,100 tonnes of fresh vegetables per annum.
The gas-rich nation is seeking to achieve self-sufficiency as part of its strategic plan. To this end, the GCC country launched a slew of initiatives in a bid to encourage local production.
Since 5 June 2017, Qatar has been facing outflows of foreign customers' deposits after four Arab countries, led by Saudi Arabia, cut their diplomatic and trade ties with the gas-rich state, accusing Qatar of financing terrorism. Doha forcefully denied the charges.
