Qatar launches direct container feeder service to Iraq

Mubasher: Qatar Navigation (Milaha) announced that it has launched the first direct container feeder service between Qatar and Iraq.

Oshairij vessel, which is owned by the Qatari maritime transport and logistics conglomerate, departed Hamad Port on Monday, 7 May 2018, and arrived at Umm Qasr Port on Wednesday, 9 May, according to the ministry of transportation and communication's (MoTC) statement issued on Wednesday.

Oshairij’s capacity is 1,015 TEU, with 110 reefer plugs, the statement showed.

The step enhances cooperation between the two Arab countries in the transportation field, in addition to boosting their trade and economic relations.

It is worth noting that Qatar, the world's top exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), started searching for other commercial alternatives, in addition to opening new transportation lines after its political dispute.

Since 5 June 2017, Qatar has been facing outflows of foreign customers' deposits after four Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia cut their diplomatic ties with the gas-rich state, accusing Qatar of financing terrorism. Doha forcefully denies the charges.
