Mubasher: Deposits at banks operating in Qatar increased by 1.7% year-on-year in August, the Qatar Central Bank’s (QCB) data showed.
Total deposits amounted to QAR 807.34 billion ($223.32 billion) in August, compared to QAR 793.64 billion ($219.53 billion) in the same period of the previous year.
On a monthly basis, deposits declined by 0.76% from QAR 813.50 billion in July.
As for non-residents’ deposits, these grew 7.5% to QAR 160 billion in August from QAR 148.9 billion in the same period of 2017.
Qatar’s private sector deposits witnessed a 37.5% year-on-year hike recording QAR 480.4 billion in August, while Qatari public sector deposits inched up 0.02% year-on-year to QAR 301.9 billion.
Deposits by non-financial institutions in the gas-rich nation tumbled to QAR 24.9 billion in August, compared to QAR 26.6 billion in the same period a year earlier.
By the end of August, Qatari banks’ assets jumped 4.9% to QAR 1.38 trillion from QAR 1.317 trillion August 2017.
