QFCA-registered firms rise 32.5% in 2017

Mubasher: The number of companies registered with the Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA) grew 32.5% in 2017 to 461 firms from 348 in 2016.

The QFCA saw significant investor interest after its roadshows and activities in London, Manchester, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Germany, QFC CEO Yousuf Mohammed Al-Jaida commented.

The increase in the number of QFC-registered companies is an indicator of the QFC’s attractive business platform and the openness of the Qatari market to the world as a whole, the top official added in a statement.

He forecast further growth and improvement in 2018.

The QFC is seeing a sharp rise in “interest from these regions and from a variety of sectors such as sports, healthcare, education, advisory firms, financial institutions, reinsurance and advisory firms," Al-Jaida added.

The QFCA also reported a 66% increase in the number of companies licensed for the full year 2017.

"While 2017 has seen unprecedented events take place, at the QFC we have in fact proven challenges can turn into successes and we have had our most successful year yet," the top official added in the statement.
