Plastic Bank establishes 11 collection centres nationwide in Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: Plastic Bank has built 11 collection centres across Egypt during 2021, Regional Director for Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa, Amr El-Kady, said.

Six facilities were established in Mansheyyet Nasser, two in El-Khosous, in addition to one centre in each of Fayoum, Port Said, Nuweibaa, and 15 May City.

Plastic Bank Egypt collected 2,700 tonnes of plastic waste, equivalent to 150 million bottles, during 2021. This amount has exceeded the target set at the start of the year by 105%, El-Kady added.

“We are also pleased with Plastic Bank’s impact in Egypt and its journey to raising awareness on the negative consequences of plastic pollution and the importance of proper plastic waste disposal,” El-Kady said.

As for the coming years, Plastic Bank intends to collect 5,000 tonnes of plastic by 2023 through expansions in four cities; Alexandria, Assiut, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Menoufia.
