Oman's Al Mouj Muscat awards construction contract

Oman’s Al Mouj Muscat has awarded a construction contract to Shaksy Engineering Services.

The Omani contractor has been picked to build Al Mouj Muscat’s Community Hub, a leisure unit that the developer describes as “a place where people can connect, share, and learn”.

Located between Al Mouj Muscat’s main entrance and Ghadeer District, the hub will feature a mosque, a kindergarten school, and a sales centre. It is due to open in 2019, Al Mouj Muscat said in a statement.

The Community Hub’s mosque will comprise prayer halls for men and women, and accommodate more than 400 people. Additionally, a cultural centre outlining Oman’s traditions, plus two libraries for men and women, will be developed within the project.

Future plans for the space around the Community Hub include pop-up outlets offering street food, Omani fashion, and local arts and crafts.

Nasser bin Masoud Al Sheibani, chief executive officer (CEO) of Al Mouj Muscat and Said bin Salaam Al Shaksi, CEO of Shaksy Engineering Services, signed the contract.

Commenting on the agreement, Sheibani said: “The Community Hub is very important for us, as it is a project driven with one ultimate goal which is serving the community.

"In fact, the masjid [mosque] in particular is something that we have wanted to bring to our community from the beginning to reflect our cultural identity. Hence, we are delighted to be starting construction which will be completed next year.”

Sheibani said Shaksy was picked to work on the project due to “its dedicated and skilled workforce, and best in market facilities, resources, and equipment”.
