Omani ruler Sultan Qaboos bin Said has issued a royal decree granting citizenship to 37 foreign residents and restoring it to 41 others, according to reports.
The announcement comes after the country said it would grant 23 foreign residents citizenship ahead of its National Day celebrations last month.
Also included in the decree was six Yemenis granted dual Omani/Yemeni nationality, Times of Oman reported.
“After reviewing the statutes of the State issued by Royal Decree No. 96/101 and the Omani Nationality Law issued by Royal Decree No. 38/2014, and in accordance with what is required by the public interest, we have stipulated the following, Omani nationality shall be returned for all those listed in the attached list,” the decree stated, according to the publication.
The names of those affected were not published.
Other Gulf countries including the UAE and Bahrain have announced 10-year visas this year in an effort to encourage foreign residents to put down more permanent roots.
