Oman Shapoorji begins construction on Muscat Bay’s Village Square

Construction work has commenced on Saraya Holdings Oman and Oman Tourism Development's (OMRAN) 2.2km2 waterfront project Muscat Bay’s Village Square, with Oman Shapoorji — the Omani arm of Indian conglomerate Shapoorji Pallonji — working on the project that is expected to be completed by mid-2020.

Foundation stone for the project spread across an area spanning 1.4ha was laid by the chief executive officer of Muscat Bay, Sheikh Hamood bin Sultan Al Hosni.

Commenting on the construction start, Al Hosni, said: “The commencement of construction work in the commercial area marks an incredible milestone in our efforts to continue providing various high-quality facilities at Muscat Bay and to make it a perfect oasis for residents and visitors.”

The Village Square development will be home to restaurants, cafes, a supermarket, a gym, and a number of retail shops. The two-storied structure will cover an area of 1,640m2, and include a parking area to accommodate 81 cars, with many being dedicated for people with special needs.

According to Al Hosni, the over 1,600m2 area of the Village Square leaves space for landscaping and for car parking.

“One of the special features is the open space that extends to more than 75% of the total land area,” he added.

Located opposite the 1.8ha Parkland, Village Square also includes other public facilities such as swimming pools, entertainment areas for kids, and playgrounds. Parkland alongside Village Square make the heart of the project.

Al Hosni added that the design of the commercial area is inspired by Omani architecture, with a contemporary European touch.

He said: “After its completion, which should be around next year, and together with the opening of the first five-star Jumeirah hotel, our flagship project will be an iconic addition to Muscat.”
