Cairo – Mubasher: Nestlé on Thursday inaugurated its new Bonjorno coffee factory in Egypt, with an investment of EGP 250 million ($13.97 million).
The new 12,740-square-metre facility is located in the 6th of October industrial zone near Cairo, with eight production lines, a capacity of 14,000 tonnes and a potential to reach to a range of 22,000 to 44,000 tonnes.
“We aim to have the Bonjorno factory as an export hub for coffee in the region,” Nestlé executive vice president and operations head Magdi Batato said.
The workforce for the new plant will comprise 240 direct employees added to nearly 7,000 indirect jobs, Nestlé said in a statement.
Egypt’s supply and internal trade minister Aly El Meselhy attended the inauguration of Nestlé's new Bonjorno factory.
“The inauguration of our third factory reflects the importance of Egypt to us and our confidence is clearly highlighted by the extensive investments we have made in Egypt over the past 5 years,” Nestlé North East Africa CEO Moataz El-Hout said.
The Swiss food giant acquired Egyptian Caravan Marketing Company, the owner of instant coffee brand Bonjorno, in January 2017.
