Riyadh – Mubasher: Mastercard on Thursday commenced its cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s national payment system “Mada” to provide Apple Pay services in the kingdom.
Apple Pay services will be initially offered to Mastercard cardholders through the National Commercial Bank (NCB) and Riyad Bank, the financial services company said in a statement.
“The speed and simplicity of Apple Pay, coupled with the peace of mind Mastercard’s multi-tiered approach to safety and security brings to every purchase, will further accelerate the uptake of cashless transactions in the region,” stated Mastercard’s general manager in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain J.K. Khalil.
This collaboration is considered a major part of the kingdom’s efforts toward digitisation in line with the Saudi Vision 2030, Mada’s managing director Ziyad Al-Yousef commented.
The Apple Pay service will be offered via Apple Watch, iPhone 6, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3.
Mada is a Saudi platform which handles domestic transactions.
Earlier this week, Apply Pay announced offering its services in Saudi Arabia via Visa on the web or its Apple Pay in-app.
