UAE - Mubasher: Masdar has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi-based Miral, a curator of experiences, to develop Abu Dhabi’s largest rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project at Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island.
Under the agreement, around 16,000 solar modules will be provided across the theme park's roof to generate about 40% of the park's annual energy demand, according to a press release on Monday.
Masdar, a leading renewable energy company, will offer a full turnkey solution for the 7-megawatt (MWp) project, including the design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance.
Scheduled to be operated in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2021, the project will make Warner Bros.World Abu Dhabi the largest solar-powered theme park in the GCC region upon completion.
Meanwhile, the project would produce 6% of the UAE's total electricity by 2030.
The CEO of Masdar, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, said: "We are proud to be supporting Abu Dhabi’s 2030 energy efficiency strategy to reduce overall electricity consumption by 22%."
The CEO of Miral, Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi, commented: "Sustainability is high on our agenda and with Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi recognised as the world’s largest indoor theme park, it is the ideal location for a project of this scale."
