Maersk inks agreement with Jafza to establish first warehousing, distribution facility

UAE - Mubasher: Maersk Kanoo UAE, an integrated container logistics company, has entered into an agreement with DP World’s Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) to establish its first warehousing and distribution facility in the UAE.

Maersk will develop the 10,000 square metre facility, which will be powered by a modern warehouse management system, in Dubai's Jafza, according to a press release on Wednesday.

With a total storage capacity of 80,000 cubic meters, the facility will serve several sectors such as petrochemical, retail and lifestyle, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), as well as technology and automotive.

The warehousing and distribution facility has a close link to seaport operations and Al Maktoum Airport to serve consumers requiring air cross-docking and moving less-than-container-load (LCL) cargo.

Maersk’s new facility will add to the existing global footprint of more than 250 warehouses spanning over 1.5 million square metres across 50 countries.

The CEO and Managing Director of DP World – UAE Region and Jafza, Abdulla bin Damithan, said: "Combined with the strength of Jebel Ali Port, Jafza creates the ideal multimodal trade and logistics hub in the region, connecting business to more than 3.5 billion consumers."

The Managing Director of Maersk UAE, Christopher Cook, commented: "Our customers deserve solutions that add value and create efficiencies to their supply chains. With our state-of-the-art W&D facility, I am confident that we are poised well to take on this responsibility."
