MBRGI offers AED 1.8bn humanitarian aid in 2017

Dubai – Mubasher: The Dubai-based Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has announced that the sum of its provided humanitarian aid for 2017 has amounted to AED 1.8 billion ($490 million).

The aid covered around 68 countries across the world, according to MBRGI’s annual report launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The UAE foundation raised its expenditure to AED 1.8 billion in 2017 from AED 1.5 billion during 2016, the report highlighted.

“We encourage all of the humanitarian institutions under the umbrella of our initiatives to strive to excel in their work," Al Maktoum commented.

Around AED 961 million was allocated to programmes and initiatives carried out by entities falling under MBRGI’s five pillars, which benefitted 69 million people in 68 countries.

Meanwhile, an amount of AED 869 was invested in establishing sustainable institutions such as the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library and the Museum of the Future, alongside others.  

The number of volunteers during the previous year reached 90,000 people, helping 543 permanent employees, data showed.
