MBC Group shifts to losses in H1-26 as advertising revenues drop

Riyadh - Mubasher: MBC Group incurred net losses totaling SAR 262.53 million for the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, reversing a net profit of SAR 151.01 million in Q2-25.

The media group’s quarterly revenue shrank by 28.35% to SAR 707.89 million, down from SAR 987.93 million in the prior-year quarter.

The company attributed the decline in profitability to a SAR 348 million drop in investment income following unrealized losses from the fair value revaluation of financial assets. Operating profit for the quarter also decreased by 51.76% to SAR 24.81 million.

Management cited a slowdown in advertising demand linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions and the expiration of certain broadcasting and technical service contracts as primary factors for the lower turnover.

For the first half (H1) of 2026, MBC Group posted a net loss of SAR 64.53million, compared to a net profit of SAR 382.81 million in H1-25. Total six-month revenue reached SAR 2.28 billion, down 24.65% YoY.

Despite the overall decline, the Shahid streaming platform recorded a revenue increase of SAR 129 million during H1-26 due to growth in subscriber numbers. Loss per share for the period hit SAR 0.19.

In Q1-26, the group’s net profits fell by 14.58% to SAR 198 million from SAR 231.80 million a year earlier.
