Lebanon targets lowering debt-to-GDP ratio

Mubasher: The governor of the Banque du Liban Riad Salameh said that the criticism by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is valid but the country is progressing in preparing its new budget.

The draft 2018 budget sends a good signal as it seeks to Lebanon’s debt-to-GDP ratio, which is among the highest in the world, from above 150%, Salameh said in a recent interview with Reuters.

The country’s economic growth could be boosted by 1% for every $1 billion of donor funding, the head of the Lebanese central bank further added, noting that the country is seeking up to $16 billion for infrastructure investments.
