Kuwait Energy begins Iraq natural gas field operations

Mubasher: Kuwait Energy on Wednesday commenced natural gas production from the Siba gas field in the south of Iraq at 25 million cubic feet (mcf) per day.

Siba is “the first gas field to be brought on stream in the south of Iraq”, a senior Iraqi official told Reuters on Wednesday, indicating that output should increase gradually to 100 mcf/day by the end of 2018.

The Siba field is currently producing natural gas and gas condensates, Kareem Abd Oda, director general of the joint venture established by Iraq and Kuwait Energy to develop the field, told the news agency.

“The gas extracted in several of these fields is flared instead of being captured as the country lacks the capacity to process it into fuel for local consumption or exports,” according to Reuters.
