KSA to build 9 water desalination plants – Minister

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued a royal decree to establish nine water desalination plants on the kingdom's Red Sea coast with more than SAR 2 billion in investments, said Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) Abdulrahman Al Fadli.

The plants will be constructed in line with cutting-edge technologies within less than 18 months, with a total capacity of 240,000 cubic metres a day, Al Fadli added on his official Twitter account.
Desalinated water production increased by 1.4 million cubic metres within 13 months, which is equivalent to constructing a plant at a value of SAR 13 billion, without additional costs.

The new plants will help Saline Water Conversion Corporation‘s (SWCC) boost production efficiency of desalinated water, in addition to decreasing capital and operational costs, Al Fadli concluded.
