Jordan Cabinet okays $84m Balqa sewage treatment project

The Cabinet of Jordan, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Rajai Muasher, has approved an $83.5m sewage project with a capacity to treat 36,000m3 of water per day in the northeast region of Balqa Governorate, located northwest of Amman.

State held news agency Petra reported that the project would increase the collection and treatment capacity of the sewage system in Balqa.

Operations at the existing Baqa'a Sewage Treatment Plant will be discontinued and the facility will be shut down. 

The capacity of the new wastewater treatment plant could be increased to 54,000 per day if needed in the future.
