Huawei is ready for US ban, keen on relations with American companies

Mubasher: Huawei is ready to deal with the US ban and the 90-day extension is not significant, founder and CEO of Huawei Ren Zhengfei told Chinese state newspaper China Daily.

Yesterday, the US Commerce Department stated that it gave Huawei a 90-day license to provide telecoms providers which rely on Huawei’s equipment and hardware time to make other arrangements.

"We are very grateful to the US companies. They have made a lot of contributions to us. Many of our consultants are from American companies such as IBM,” Ren said.

The US bank will not affect Huawei's 5G plan, the top official noted, adding that Europe was closely communicating his company, for some of the 5G features are suitable for introduction of the technology in Europe.

In April, the EU released statistics that showed that Huawei’s research and development (R&D) investment in 2018 reached $15 billion, exceeding Microsoft, Apple and Intel.

"Others will definitely not be able to catch up with Huawei in 5G technologies for two or three years. But in our business (5G), Huawei is at the forefront, though when it comes to comparison between countries, we are still far behind the United States," Ren maintained.

Last week, US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency over threats against US technology, authorising Commerce Department to ban any transactions that include any communication technology that poses “an unacceptable risk to the national security.”

Following the decision, Google suspended business with Huawei which requires the transfer of hardware, software and services except for those publicly available.
