GE Power boosts capacity of Iraqi Al Qudus Power Plant

Mubasher: US GE Power has installed and commissioned a new advanced 9E gas turbine at the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity’s (MoE) Al Qudus Power Plant.

The 9E gas turbine will add 125 megawatts (MWs) to the capacity of the Iraqi plant, which is capable to generate up to 1,125 MWs, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

“The successful delivery, installation and commissioning of a new gas turbine at Al Qudus Power Plant just five months after the contract was awarded is a testament to the Ministry and GE’s joint commitment to powering Iraq,” director of the Media Department of the Iraqi MoE Musaab al-Mudarris said.

The American energy techniques company will also provide maintenance services, parts, and rehabilitation works at the site.

“GE is committed to delivering reliable, efficient and affordable power to help the Iraqi people strengthen their economy, re-build conflict-affected areas and support progress for present and future generations,” president and CEO of GE’s Gas Power Systems and Power Services businesses in the Middle East and South Asia Joseph Anis commented.

GE-built technologies contribute up to 55% of Iraq’s current electricity production, GE and its partners power more than 90% of the aircraft operated by Iraqi Airways and nearly 4,000 GE Healthcare products are deployed in hospitals and clinics across Iraq.
