French investments in Egypt hit EUR 4bn - Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: France is one of the largest investors in Egypt as the number of French companies operating in the North African nation are more than 160 with a total investment of over EUR 4 billion.

French investments in Egypt have doubled during 2017 in the different fields, including the infrastructure, transport, industry, communication and information technology, energy, and development of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), investment and international cooperation minister Sahar Nasr said in a statement on Tuesday.

Egypt-France economic coordination portfolio in financing development project totals EUR 1.2 billion within the framework of the Egyptian economic reform programme, Nasr highlighted.

Moreover, Egypt’s mutual programme with the European Union (EU) has granted over EUR 1 billion, she indicated.

A large number of French companies have been established in Egypt following the approval of the new investment law, in addition to a higher number of firms expanding in the Egyptian market, she stressed.

This came on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the economic forum held in the Arab World Institute in Paris on the future relations between Egypt and France.
