European investments in Egypt hit $15bn - Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: European investments in the Egyptian market amounted to $15.1 billion, Egypt’s trade minister said on Tuesday.

The UK is the leading European investor in the North African nation with investments worth $5.3 billion, accounting for 35% of total European investments, Amr Nassar added in a statement.

Meanwhile, Netherlands ranks second with total investments of EUR 2.5 billion in Egypt, followed by Italy and France with EUR 1.48 billion and EUR 1.3 billion investments, the minister highlighted.

In the same vein, Phil Hogan, commissioner for the European Union (EU) Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the EU is keen to strengthen economic ties with Egypt in different sectors as it is one of the pivotal countries in the Mediterranean.

Hogan indicated that the EU-Egypt cooperation projects cover the fields of water, transportation, environment, education, energy, and agriculture.
