Etisalat to invest AED 3.6bn in 2018

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Emirates Telecommunications Group (Etisalat) plans to inject  AED 3.6 billion investments this year into developing mobile networks and fiber optics, as well as upgrading infrastructure, CEO Saleh Al Abdooli said.

The UAE-based telecoms operator is continuing establishing the world's state-of-the-art mobile networks, Al Abdooli added on the sidelines of the 2018 Mobile World Congress (MWC) which officially kicked off in Barcelona, Spain, on Monday, 26 February.

The telecommunications provider stated previously that subscribers’ number inched up 0.7% to 142 million during the fourth quarter of 2017, up from 141 million subscribers in the same period a year earlier.

The largest telecoms firm in the Gulf has a presence in UAE, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali, Niger, and Afghanistan.

Etisalat's subscribers in the UAE increased 3% to 12.6 million during Q4-17 on the back of the telecom sector’s positive performance and live services.

The Abu Dhabi-listed firm also reported an 11.9% drop in return on equity (ROE) in Q4-17, with a return of AED 1,969.1 million, compared to AED 2,235.5 million in the corresponding period the year before.
