Etisalat Misr boosts network investments to EGP 3.5bn

Cairo – Mubasher: Etisalat Misr has boosted its planned investments to develop its network during this year to EGP 3.5 billion from EGP 2.5 billion.

This follows the notable growth in internet usage through mobile phones and the virtual hosting of the fourth operator WE at Etisalat’s cell towers.

The Egyptian telecom firm is looking to set up new networks in a bid to cover more areas in line with the increasing number of users, chief corporate affairs officer Khaled Hegazy told Almal News.

The core network is also being developed to handle the growing data, he added.

The telecom sector is notably improving on the back of the increase in mobile data users, as compared with the past two years, Hegazy said.

It is worth noting that Telecom Egypt signed a local roaming agreement with Etisalat Misr, the Egyptian subsidiary of the UAE's Etisalat, to provide mobile phone services through the virtual fourth operator of the latest for five years.
