Etihad Airways calls off Airbus order, plans more layoffs

Dubai – Mubasher: Etihad Airways has reportedly cancelled an order of 10 Airbus’ A320neo single-aisle jets, revealing plans to lay off 50 pilot jobs, according to Bloomberg.

Under a new strategy to end a massive expansion plan, the UAE-based carrier has cut hundreds of jobs.

"Etihad continues to implement important changes to the business as part of its transformation process. This will provide vital efficiencies and ensure the business is best placed to move forward in the future,” a spokesperson said.

Last year, CEO of Etihad Aviation Group Tony Douglas stated that Etihad Airways was ready to give up its pursuit to compete with the UAE giant carriers, confining itself to Abu Dhabi.

In June, Reuters reported that Etihad Airways was in talks with Boeing for the cancellation or deferring of777X jets order worth billions of dollars.
