Eni to boost Egypt’s Zohr gas output to 2 bcfd end-2018

Cairo – Mubasher: IEOC, a subsidiary of Italian oil producer Eni, plans to raise gas production from Egypt’s giant offshore Zohr field to 1.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in May and to 2 bcfd by the end of 2018, IEOC general manager Fabio Cavanna said on Tuesday.

The Italian firm also seeks to increase gas output from the Egyptian field to 2.7 bcfd in 2019, Reuters reported, citing Cavanna as saying.

This came on the sidelines of the 9th Mediterranean Offshore Conference and Exhibition held in Alexandria, Egypt.

Supergiant Zohr gas field, discovered by Eni in 2015, has an estimated 30 trillion cubic feet of gas surplus.

The North African nation aims to accelerate production from new-found fields in an attempt to halt liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports by 2019 to become gas self-sufficient by the end of 2018.
