Eni begins production of Egypt’s Baltim South West gas field

Cairo – Mubasher: Italian oil giant Eni has successfully commissioned and started production from the offshore Baltim South West gas field in Egypt, according to a statement on Tuesday.

Situated in shallow waters 12 kilometres off Egypt’s Mediterranean coast and 10 kilometres away from the Nooros field, the field was discovered by Eni in June 2016.

Currenlty, the field has an initial production capacity of 100 million standard cubic feet per day (scfpd) from a new offshore platform connected to the onshore Abu Madi Gas Plant.

Five additional wells are expected to be drilled with the aim of reaching a production output of 500 million scf/d by the second quarter of 2020.

The total gas output capacity from the Great Nooros Area is estimated at 3 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, including 2 trillion cubic feet in the Nooros field and the remaining in Baltim South West.

The Italian oil firm, through its unit Ieoc, holds a 50% interest, while BP has the remainder 50% interest of the contractor’s stake in the Baltim South development lease.

The project is implemented by Belayim Petroleum Company (Petrobel), jointly owned by the state-run Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Eni on behalf of Medgas, held by the contractor and EGPC.
