Empower connects district cooling plant to Dubai's Royal Atlantis

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has connected 10,650 refrigeration tonnes (RT) capacity of cooling services to the Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences on Palm Jumeirah to support the hotel’s revamp and expansion project as of May 2019.

Work on the project is 85% completed, and according to Empower is being planned in line with the six-month Expo 2020 Dubai, which is set to welcome more than 25 million visitors to the country.

Commenting on district cooling services for the project, chief executive officer of Empower, Ahmad Bin Shafar, said: “District cooling services have become an essential element for major real estate projects, locally and internationally, due to their unique features and benefits.”

According to Shafar, the district cooling contract for Royal Atlantis Resort and Residences project reflects the growing confidence of investors and developers in Empower.

“We work to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development that takes into account economic development, whilst preserving the environment and protecting natural resources supporting the Dubai Plan 2021 to make the emirate a smart and sustainable city,” added Shafar.

District cooling systems are said to use 50% less energy than conventional cooling systems.
