Emirates, Etihad Airways in talks to invest in South Africa Airways

Dubai – Mubasher: Emirates and Etihad Airways are reportedly in talks with South African Airways (SAA) with regard to a potential partnership.

The SAA has been through a financial crisis and the exit from it seems to be what the airways’ CEO described as an “aviation investor”, Bloomberg reported.

The UAE embassy in Pretoria has facilitated such negotiations between Emirates and the SAA, the GCC country’s ambassador to South Africa Mahash Alhameli told a local newspaper.

Etihad Airways was also holding separate talks with SAA.

“Etihad Airways does not comment on rumour or speculation,” the UAE-based carrier told Bloomberg.

The UAE has pledged to pump AED 36.73 billion ($10 billion) investments in South Africa during a visit by the country’s President Cyril Ramaphosa
