Elsewedy Electric, Toyota Tsusho complete four GIS substations in Iraq

Cairo – MubasherElsewedy Electric Co and Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) announced the completion of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract of four gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in Southern Iraq. 

The contract included four substations with a capacity of 400/132/11 kilovolt (kV) in Sothern Iraq, namely Al-Amara Governorate, Samawa Governorate, Al-Nasiriya Governorate, and Al-Basra Governorate, as well as 12 mobile GIS substations with a capacity of 132/33 kV, according to a statement on Monday. 

Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) manufactured all GIS switchgear and high voltage transformers, while the equipment for 132/33kV mobile substations was produced by Meidensha Corporation. The substations have a planned capacity to generate electricity for about  1.3 million households.

Elsewedy Electric designed and built the 400/132/11kV GIS substations. 

Currently, Elsewedy Electric is in a consortium with Toyota Tsusho Corporation, building New Babil 400/132 kV substation, under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) finance.
