Egypt to raise electricity prices by 15% in FY19/20

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s minister of electricity announced on Tuesday that electricity tariffs will be increased by 14.9% in fiscal year 2019/2020.

The new hikes in electricity prices will be effective starting from 1 July, Mohamed Shaker said in a press conference.

Electricity tariffs of the first segment, from 0 to 50 kilowatts, are set to rise to 30 piasters per kilowatt, instead of 22 piasters.

The second segment, from 51 to 100 kilowatts, will increase to 40 piasters, instead of 30 piasters, and the third segment, from 0 to 200 kilowatts, will surge to 50 piasters, instead of 36 piasters.  

Additionally, the fourth segment, from 201 to 350 kilowatts, will increase to 82 piasters, instead of 70 piasters, while the fifth segment, from 351 kilowatts to 650, will hike to 100 piasters, instead of 90 piasters.

Meanwhile, the sixth segment’s tariffs, from 651 to 1000 kilowatts, will increase to 140 piasters per kilowatt, instead of 135 piasters, while the seventh segment, above 1000 kilowatts, will be 145 piasters per kilowatt.
