Egypt to partner with private-sector hospitals on universal health insurance

Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt is looking to create partnerships with private-sector hospitals and health and medical centres to implement the universal health insurance scheme upon approval of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation & Regulation (GAHAR), Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) Mohamed Maait said.

This move will help expand the network of services of the universal health insurance scheme throughout the country, Maait added in a statement on Monday.

The government plans to provide more than 2,500 healthcare services to beneficiaries of the scheme, the CEO of UHIA, Hossam Sadek, said.

Sadek added that citizens covered under the universal health insurance system will pay no more than EGP 300 even in the largest surgeries.
