Egypt to offer 500MW solar plants tenders in 2018

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy plans to launch tenders for establishing solar power plants with a total capacity of 500 megawatts in the first quarter of 2017.

These plants will be constructed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis in the Upper Egypt governorates of Aswan and Minya, official sources told Alborsa News.

Arab and international firms have submitted offers to the New and Renewable Energy Authority and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co (EETC) to set up 100 to 200 megawatts solar plants, but the authority will launch bid instead so firms can compete for it, sources added.

On 23 October, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced that it will fund implementation and operation of two 80-megawatt solar power plants in Benban, Aswan through a syndicated loan of $87 million.
